These details will elevate your style
Welcome to March
I’m back from Italy and man, there’s nothing like being in nature for a few days to reset your mental.
At the same time, every year I’m reminded about how the energy begins to pick up in New York City when March rolls around. As soon as it's sunny and warm, the city turns into the happiest place on Earth. I'm ready for that moment.
This week I wanted to inspire you with some of the essentials I carry everyday. They’re all just as much for function as they are to compliment whatever I’m wearing or wherever I’m going.
We’re so used to seeing women obsess over jewelry, bags and their own accessories but there’s a whole world of men’s accessories that I think every guy should keep in mind while they think of their own style.
The right accessory goes a long way, as you’ll see below.

Essential accessories
for every man

Given it’s not quite winter and not fully spring, this is the time of year where I start to transition from my heavier winter clothing options into lighter, layered outfits.
March is that weird in-between month. Coats begin to be phased out but it’s not quite time for full spring fits yet. And while your wardrobe goes through its transition this month, remember, style isn’t just about clothing - it’s also about the details that pull it all together.
In fact, the right accessories aren’t seasonal - they’re essential.
They’re the details that bring an outfit together, add personality, and even elevate the simplest look. Trends may change with the seasons but the right accessories will stand the test of time.
The watch: Your daily signature
A man’s watch isn’t just about telling time, it’s a statement of style and presence.
Whether it’s for function, status, or appreciation of craftsmanship, a watch shows that you understand style goes beyond clothing. The right watch will make a statement before you even say a word.
What to look for in a watch…
Strap - stainless steel, leather, rubber
Size - I prefer 33mm-41mm for a clean look, but go larger if you have bigger wrists
Budget - this ends up being any number you’re comfortable with, there’s truly a price range for everyone
Once you have an idea of what you’re looking for, this is where the fun begins. Try on as many as you like given you’re going to be wearing this everyday.
My suggestions to help you get the ball rolling:
Affordable: Seiko SWR052 – simple, timeless, reliable.
Mid-range: Tissot PRX Powermatic, Hamilton Khaki Field – great for everyday wear.
Luxury: Cartier Tank, Rolex Submariner, Omega Seamaster – investment pieces that hold value.
The Bag: Elevate your everyday carry
A lot of guys don’t think twice about the bag they use even though it is something they tend to use everyday. Whether you’re going to work, the gym, or travelling, your bag should match your style.
Your bag should match your function.
Nothing beats the look of a classic leather duffle bag, but you also have the choice of going with…
A leather or canvas backpack that is sharp and clean
A messenger bag if you want something sleeker
One thing about duffles is that they can get much heavier than the other two options, so choose based on your needs.
Just like a good watch, a good bag will last you years so upscale brands like Coach and Carl Friedrik, and a mid-tier option like Herschel offer timeless, quality bags for men.
The Sunglasses: More than just eye protection
Sunglasses aren’t just for summer, they define who you are - just ask Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp, Elton John and countless other celebrities who don’t go out in public without their sunglasses.
The right pair of sunglasses can make you look polished, confident, and effortlessly stylish.
Pay attention to these features when you’re looking for a pair:
Frame Shape: Find one that fits your face. Classic aviators, wayfarers, and round frames never go out of style.
Timeless Over Trendy: Stick to designs that will still look good years from now.
Lens Style: Whether it be gradient for a modern look or the classic all black, go with what makes you feel most confident.
With sunglasses, it really comes down to what your preference is with frames and lens.
I tend to lean towards classy looks so I go with smaller, classic frames from the likes of SALT optics, Persol, and Moscot. You can never go wrong with a good pair of Ray-Ban’s though.
The Wallet: The everyday detail in your pocket
Here’s the scenario: you’re on a date and it comes time to pay for the bill. The statement you make with pulling out a sleek, organized wallet versus pulling out a bulky brick full of cards are two opposite ends of the spectrum - I think you get the picture.
It may not be the first thing people see, but your wallet says a lot about you.
You use your wallet everyday and every time you pull it out, it makes an impression.
A slim, refined wallet says you care about your style while carrying only what you need. Plus it fits in your pocket so much easier than the bulge you get from a stuffed, bulky wallet.
You can never go wrong with a classic, elegant leather cardholder from a brand like Tom Ford.
A good accessory should be something you refuse to leave the house without.
From necklaces, to bracelets, to belts, I could go on and on about all the small details you can add to your arsenal. You can see my full list here.
Remember to pick wisely though - great style isn’t about owning more, it’s about choosing the right accessory that will essentially last forever.
WHAT’S NEW
