Your home setup does more than you think
The essentials that level up any living space
The right living space fuels the rest of your life
Your space reflects who you are. I learned this when I was young and broke, and even though I had cheap, pre-owned furniture in my bedroom, I proudly organized and cleaned it daily.
And now, while I have the means to upgrade what goes into my home, I still look for things that contribute to how I live, things that help with everyday life.
This week I’m taking you through the things I think truly impact where you live. No matter your budget or how much space you have, there’s something for everyone to get the most out of where you live.
This week:
🏠️ The three things your home setup should be:
- Functional
- Inspiring productivity
- A reflection of who you are

ELEVATE YOUR SPACE
ELEVATE YOURSELF

As you think about revamping your space, there’s three main things your home should do for you (aside from the obvious shelter and safety).
Your home should be functional, helping you stay organized, focused, and comfortable.
It should also be the space that allows you to be productive. I work from home so I distinctly planned out my space so I could maximize the work I get done.
And lastly, this is the space you spend the most time in so it should inspire you, and ultimately be a reflection of who you are.
Getting your home to work FOR you
There are few key pieces that add a smart touch to your living space and make your life immediately easy.
Smart lighting
Being able to control all of my lights through my Google home was a game changer. Whether I’m in another room or I’m out for the day and can’t remember if I left the lights on, smart lights like the Philips Hue make it so convenient to automate your light set up.
The right sound system
I know I’ve brought them up in the past but Sonos makes some of the best speakers and headphones in the world. You get the best quality sound, easy to use tech, and all of their tech seamlessly connects together, creating the right vibe across all of your living space.
Temperature matters more than you think
With the right temperature, you sleep better, you feel better, and remain more alert throughout the day. Certain temperatures may work better for you and a product like the Nest thermostat makes it easy to not only set the temperature in your space, but also work with you to set schedules based on when you’re home or not.
A space that breeds productivity
Your home set up should help you build the momentum you need to get through your workday. Comfort and style is the focus with your workspace, especially if you plan on spending a lot of time working at home.
Your desk is your foundation
The right desk makes all the difference, from space, to size, to comfort, choose a desk that functions for your work.
Whether you need the space because of monitors or you want something stylish and elegant, you’ll spend a lot of time at your desk, so you might as well make it worth it.
Where you sit is just as important
If your desk is your foundation, what you’re sitting on is an extension of that foundation. I highly recommend investing in a quality desk chair - your posture, back health, and focus all depend on it.
And it will last, I’ve had my Herman Miller for <insert years here> and it still feels like new after working from home for years.
What you work with rounds it out
You can see the massive curved monitor I use here. Is this necessary? The answer is, it depends. I like to have enough screen space to have multiple windows open at a time. But maybe you need something a little smaller.
The point is to ensure you’ve got a setup that is useful for your work - from monitor and desk pad, to desk valet tray, you’ll always do your best work in an organized space.
Where you live is a reflection of who you are
Whether you spend a lot of time at home or not, the right finishing touches should not only bring your space together, but also inspire you.
The classic coffee table book
I keep a bunch of these around my apartment, both for show but also for learning. Coffee table books are great as statement pieces, filling spaces, or depending on what you’re interested in, learning something new.
If you’re looking to add some sophistication to your space, you can never go wrong with a clean coffee table book.
Lamps are underrated
A lot of guys look past lamps as something that elevates the home. But in fact, even just a good floor lamp can create warmth and an inviting vibe that stronger ceiling lights just won’t do.
Position your lamps near seating areas, bookshelves, or in corners to make your space feel more put-together. Or go with table lamps when you’re looking for a cozy vibe.
Give your walls some character
Whether it’s a painting or a framed photograph, put up art that reflects who you are and tells a story. Even just one large framed piece anchors a room and instantly makes the space look polished.
If you aren’t sure where the first piece should go, start near your front door so it’s the first thing people see when they walk in, setting the tone for your place.
